Link Building

It is no secret that search engines use links to measure the authority of websites. For a time period, they were considered to be obsolete with social mentions emerging as a perfect substitute but still authority backlinks count in many ways. They aren’t just helpful in getting some link juice but also help to drive tons of clicks. Most importantly links are like votes to a website. Imagine your website securing the first position in Google just by getting more votes! The more authority & quality votes you get, the higher your rank will be.

The Digital sphere has seen dramatic changes in past 2 years with the release of Google Panda and Penguin. Both have changed the conventional online marketing strategies like building links or writing content etc.

Here are some unusual link building methods that you have probably never heard of but can add value to your backlinking campaign.

1-      Buy Expired Domains:

This simple technique is not known to many but it is so powerful and can’t go unnoticed. Launching a new website in a challenging niche can be harder and competing with giants is going to suck a lot of your time.

So here’s the tip: Head over to GoDaddy Auctions and buy expired domains. You can get domains with hundreds of links still pointing back to them. Using a 301 redirect will help to pass on the juice to your money site. It can give an instant boost to your business website within days without even building a single link to it.

Here are a couple more marketplaces where you can get expired domains Snapnames, Pool.com.

2-      Add Your Site into Website Feedback Sites:

There are several websites that can help you to get feedback on your website’s overall design. Here’s the best part; most of them offer dofollow link love to all the domains submitted for a review.

Here are a few websites:

Here’s a list of feedback websites. The process is easier done than said. Create your account and submit your website with a little description and you’ll get a link. Easy, huh?

3-      HARO:

The name sounds strange at first read but this is one of the best platforms to obtain authority backlinks. HARO (Help a Reporter Out) is a growing publicity service in United States. Don’t take it for granted as major News agencies such as Fox, MSNBC and others use it to find news.

To date they have facilitated 7.5 million media pitches and promoted 1000+ brands to a vast range of consumers.

4-      404 not Found:

We all know that 404 not found error is an HTTP status code to tell the page you were trying to reach on a website couldn’t be found on server. Then! How can it help to get backlinks?

Yes I promise it will. Did you ever search for creative 404 page not found design ideas? Well, there are hundreds of bloggers who’ve listed a variety of creative 404 examples and you can outreach them in a nice manner to list your creatively designed 404 not found page.

Tip: Take your designer onboard and come up with a killer customized 404 not found page design before outreaching bloggers to add yours. Finding bloggers is easier with Google advance search operators.

5-      Submit it to Audio Sharing Sites:
Bathroom Singing

To some extent we all try out our vocals while taking a shower and totally fit in the category of bathroom singer. But I am 100% sure that SEO’s have never tried their singing quality this way before! All right, you can take full advantage of your voice by recording an audio and publishing on a list of audio sharing sites.

Here are some audio sharing websites but you are free to Google for a larger collection.

  • Reverbnation.com
  • BandCamp.com
  • MobyPicture.com

By doing so, you can get a good amount of authority links since most of the sites possess high PR. Hit the record button and let the melody earn you a few decent links!

6-      Events/Meet-ups:
Meet up

Sorry about the front guy in blue shirt :-)

They say “Offline is the new strategy“! So the best way to generate tons of links quickly is to host an event or a meet-up. It is a fact that people attending an event are more likely to write about you, your business or website and this mantra works well in a different range of niches.

Catch up with your industry influencers and invite them over for a dinner or whatever suits you. Personalize it as much as you can and don’t get obsessed with industry talks. Let it go in a smooth way and have trivial episodes of niche talks. Organizing such events is a terrific way to garner special attention of the people in your industry and link LOVE will come subsequently!

All these are rarely used link building techniques that can help. If you know any other techniques which aren’t known to many or hardly used, please share in your comments below.
